Planting Paulownia

After several stages, now it is the very moment, when (a partial number of) the Paulownias are being transplanted directly into the soil, where they will grow and become strong and tall trees. Paulownias normally grows up to 30 ft in three years...

The weather and the soil here in Kona is practical saying the best for Paulownias, so it certainly will turn out to be a successful (profitable) short term operation.

"Intercropping Studies conducted by the International Development Research Center, show that individual 10-year-old Paulownia trees, produced 190 to 233 board feet of volume. After sawing 40% of this into marketable lumber, the grower would be left with 76 to 93 board feet per tree of marketable lumber."

Growing Stages

Here are some more pictures on the first stages of Paulownia Trees cultivation in Kona, Hawaii, where the roots are being cut in various sizes, so it is possible to know how much small or how much big, the roots could be, prior to take them to the greenhouse or to plant them directly into the soil (like the big one below).

Kona Site

Welcome to Hawaii Greenhouse, this blog is a humble attempt to explore the different theories, stages and practical experiences on sustainable living and Paulownia cultivation in Hawaii, other states in USA and worldwide.

As more information becomes available, I will progressively update this blog. Eventually I will post pictures about the different stages of the planting process. At the moment, I am displaying pictures that I took at spare times, while working on the Paulownia project in the Big Island.

Credits for planning and developing the "Paulownia Project" goes to Eric, Skyler, Mike and many others who are working on the solid aspects of environmental awarenesses.

Here are some pictures taken at "Kona Site", where a Paulownia cultivation project is in development. This is the stage one, where the greenhouses are being built and the first Paulownias are sprouting:
